Home Information Packs (HIPs) are documents providing important information about a property such as the properties energy efficiency, boundary ownership and planning permissions. HIPs became compulsory as of the 1st June 2007 in England and Wales meaning any person selling their home must provide any potential buyers with a the pack inlcuding Energy Performance Certificates, searches and other legal documentation. Home Information Packs may also include a Home Condition Report however this is not a compulsory document.

Prior to Home Information Pack being made mandatory, buyers had to make a formal offer before seeing important information about a property. With the introduction of HIPs, it is now compulsory to disclose essential information upfront prior to offer easing the legal, financial and administrative problems of home moving.
